Suppose $\gamma :[a,b]\to \mathbb {C}$ is a smooth curve whose image lies inside an open subset $U\subset \mathbb {C}$. Suppose $f:U\to \mathbb {C}$ is a continuous map. The integral of $f$ along $\gamma$ is defined as follows:
